Frequently Asked Questions
What do cleansers do?
Facial cleansers remove dirt, excess oil, pollution, sunscreen, and makeup from the skin’s surface. They help keep pores clear, help prevent breakouts, balance the skin, and prepare it for the next steps in your skincare routine.
Medik8 offers a range of cleansers to suit every skin type and concern, from nourishing cream and oil cleansers to clarifying gels and gently exfoliating formulas, making it easy to build the perfect first step in your skincare journey.
How often should I cleanse my face?
Is double-cleansing necessary?
For worn sunscreen, makeup, or environmental pollutants, double cleansing can help. Use an oil-based cleanser first to dissolve surface oils and makeup, followed by a water-based cleanser to remove deeper impurities. Be mindful not to cleanse too often or too harshly, as this can disrupt the skin barrier.
What are water-based cleansers?
What is an oil-based cleanser, and how does it work?
Oil-based cleansers are formulated with natural oils or esters that bind to oil-based impurities like sebum, makeup, sunscreen, and pollution. They work on the principle that “like dissolves like,” gently lifting away debris without disrupting the skin’s natural moisture barrier.
To use, massage the cleanser onto dry skin for 30–60 seconds, then add water to emulsify before rinsing thoroughly.
Oil cleansers are especially effective as the first step in a double cleanse, helping to remove long-wear or waterproof products with ease.
