Medik8's Purpose & Impact
1. Our Purpose
We exist to deliver clinically proven, high-performance skincare through responsible science, embedding sustainability, ethical partnerships, and long-term environmental stewardship into every stage of our business.
2. Our Approach to Sustainability
We have been a B Corp certified company since December 2023. We are working towards recertification under on the new B Corp Standard (2.1), aiming for completion in September 2026. You can view our current B Corp profile here.
Our sustainability strategy is founded on B Corp principles and on the mission to use our position as a manufacturer to reduce our negative impact on the planet and increase our positive impact on people and communities. This is based on our Materiality Assessment (conducted in 2024, updated in 2026), which was presented in our 2025 Sustainability Report, and Sustainability Report 2026. Based on our material topics, we set targets, which are being managed via a strong governance process. We report progress annually in our Sustainability reports.
Below we list the key aspects we focus on, a summary of our approach and policies documents, where applicable.
3. Environmental Stewardship
Carbon Emissions Inventory: We are committed to transparency regarding our climate impact. We have been measuring our Corporate Carbon Footprint since 2021, and publishing it transparently in our annual Sustainability Report. View our Public GHG Emissions Inventory and calculation methodology. Since 2025, we have also had our inventory 3rd party verified.
Renewable Energy: Since 2018, we have been purchasing 100% renewable energy for our Elstree and Aston Clinton facilities.
Environmental policy: We are targeting obtaining ISO14001 certification by 2027 and have already taken steps to implement its requirements, such as putting in place an Environmental Policy.
Waste Management: Since 2025, our waste management practices have been 3rd party verified and we have been awarded the Zero Avoidable Waste to Landfill certification.
4. Human Rights & Labour Standards
Our philosophy extends to every individual who touches our brand.
Human Rights: Respect for human rights is a fundamental value of Medik8. We aim to conduct our business in line with international best practice guidance. Our Human Rights Policy provides details of our commitment to respect human rights wherever we do business.
Modern Slavery: We strictly prohibit any form of modern slavery in our business activities, including forced or child labour. For further details see our Modern Slavery Statement.
Fair Pay: We are a Living Wage Employer, meaning we pay the Real Living wage rates as set by the Living Wage Foundation (‘the only UK wage rate based on living costs’) to all employees, including temporary workers, and ensure all on-site contractors, such as cleaners, are also paid the Real Living Wage.
Grievance Mechanisms: We provide a range of secure channels for employees, partners and other stakeholders to report concerns in a way that is free from fear of retribution. View our Grievance policy and how to report a grievance.
Health & Safety: As manufacturers, the health and safety of our employees is a key concern, and we have policies and procedures in place to ensure that all employees go home in a state as good as they came in, if not better.
5. Diversity & Inclusion
At Medik8, we believe that diversity within our workplace drives innovation. We celebrate multiple backgrounds, cultures, approaches and points of view, and believe that when people feel respected and included, they can truly flourish. We’re committed to advancing equal opportunities and we’re dedicated to building a workforce as diverse as our consumer base, creating a multifaceted, equitable and inclusive culture and allowing all colleagues to bring their whole selves to work.
Gender Pay Gap: We have been voluntarily publishing a Gender Pay Gap Report since 2023. You can read our latest report here.
Disability Confident Leader: Since 31 December 2024, we have been certified as a Disability Confident Leader, we actively champion disability inclusion, drive continuous improvement, and share best practice to help create more accessible workplaces across our industry.
Inclusive recruitment: We have put in place active measures to encourage applications regardless of backgrounds, like including wording in every job advert encouraging candidates to apply even if they don’t meet 100% of requirements, as studies have found that minority groups tend to apply for roles only when they meet 100% of the role requirements, whereas non-minority groups tend to apply when they meet only 60% of the role requirements (data from Hewlett Packard research). We also use blind CVs and now publish salary ranges on every job advert.
6. Community & Volunteering
Enabling Customers to Donate: We make it easy for our customers to donate 1% of their shopping basket to a charity of their choice on our UK and US websites, at no cost for themselves.
Matching Charity Donations: We support our employees’ charitable efforts by
matching the funds raised up to £500.
Volunteering: All our employees benefit from two paid volunteer days each year. We also organise a company Positive Impact Day annually, to support our local communities.
7. Suppliers
Supplier Code of Ethics: All our suppliers are required to sign our Code of Ethics before we can do business with them.
Risk assessments & Audits: We use the Sedex platform to conduct risk assessments on labour, environmental impact and ethics for all new suppliers, and for all high risk existing suppliers, and conduct audits where required.
8. Governance & Ethical Business
Stakeholder Governance: We are committed to a governance model that considers the interests of all stakeholders, including employees, customers, and the environment. [View our Stakeholder Governance Policy]
Anti-Bribery and Corruption: We maintain a zero-tolerance policy toward bribery and unethical business practices.
Responsible Lobbying: We do not conduct any political lobbying. We work with industry organisations like CTPA and British Beauty Council on industry relevant topics, including social and environmental positive impact. We ensure all corporate influence activities are conducted ethically. [View our Responsible Lobbying Policy & Contributions]
Ethical Marketing: We believe in honest, science-backed claims. [View our Ethical Marketing Policy]
