The Story of CSA

At Medik8, our ultimate mission is to help you achieve Beautiful Skin for Life. We remember this every day, because it instructs our scientific evidence-based approach to product development.

Coming to the subject of skincare from outside the beauty industry, as scientists, we wanted to establish what were the main ingredients and technologies that made the most difference to skin ageing.

In this way, we could develop a simple ‘method’ with only the minimum number of products required so that everyone could adopt our philosophy to give skin its biggest bang for buck - and we could dedicate our time and focus to refining these few products.

So in 2009, when the Medik8 professional skincare line was developed, our founder, Elliot Isaacs, went on a skincare mission. Delving through scientific articles, published journals, and following real-time treatment outcomes seeking the answers we were looking for.

What was the simplest way to help people get Beautiful Skin for Life? He found that vitamin C, vitamin A and sunscreen were the most credible, well-researched ingredients with the most evidence to show that they really, truly work on the skin.

Incorporating these findings into a skincare routine that combined both results and practicality, we coined the term “CSA Philosophy” to describe our system of using Vitamin C in the day followed by Sunscreen, and then Vitamin A at night. Incredibly simple and grounded in science - it just works. This CSA method is becoming more and more mainstream by the day and we couldn't be happier.

Just like the tastiest things tend to have the most calories, so the most effective skincare ingredients seem to have the biggest issues in terms of stability and formulation complexities. What this means is that you cannot just make a casserole of CSA ingredients and put it on the market. The resulting product will likely degrade quickly and could even do more harm than good. By keeping our philosophy simple, Medik8 scientists were able to devote their time and resources to produce the best versions of each CSA component.

We heard rumours that other cosmetic houses saying we were ‘crazy’ to make it so simple and that we would regret it as we could only ever produce a handful of products. In fact, our work has never ended and probably will never end because like a racing car manufacturer, there are always ways to refine and improve performance.

So what are the secrets to the CSA Philosophy? Well Vitamin C provides exceptional antioxidant protection while stimulating collagen production for a plump, protected complexion. Sunscreen shields your skin from the harmful UV rays which can cause up to 80% of premature ageing.1 Vitamin A speeds up skin cell renewal and boosts collagen levels for smooth, even-toned skin - and it does so much more. Together, the power-trio work in synergy to promote beautiful skin. For more information on vitamin C, vitamin A and sunscreen, click the links.

Of course, we are standing on the shoulders of giants. Although we have done lots of original research ourselves and believe we were the first brand to communicate ‘C in the morning, A at night’ we would not be able to offer you this technology if it were not for the outstanding work of many scientists who research and publish in this area. We salute and thank them.

It is an amazing feeling to see our CSA Philosophy being adopted by the forward thinking beauty press. We are incredibly proud. Just the other day Stylist magazine featured the importance of CSA based skincare.

So just to recap. Results-driven anti-ageing skincare does not have to be complicated. We want to show the world that you don’t need a thousand different products to make a real, profound difference on your skin. You just need three very simple ingredients, in very sophisticated formulations where they can perform to their full potential. CSA is the future.

Finally, the world is coming around to the power of three; and we hope you hop on board too.

Get started on your CSA journey with just two products...

Daily Radiance Vitamin C

Advanced Night Restore
